9th and 9th in Salt Lake City is an eccentric neighborhood that is special in many ways. It harbors people of many different backgrounds, with people speaking languages from English to Portuguese to Yiddish. Its lower crime rate, great local restaurants, nearby Liberty Park, and quick access to downtown and the University of Utah makes it an ideal neighborhood to live in Salt Lake City.
The neighborhood has a
high concentration of historic homes, mostly built before 1940. The
architecture of 9th and 9th homes is as unique and diverse as the
people. From Tudors, Bungalows, Spanish to Modern homes, 9th and 9th has
it all. It is situated between Sugar House, downtown, and the
University of Utah, making it a convenient place for commuting to school
and work. Many 9th and 9th residents walk, ride the bus or bike to get
to work. 9th and 9th is also considered one of the most walkable
neighborhoods in Salt Lake City with diverse restaurants, locally owned
shops and nearby parks.
The 9th and 9th culture is unique. There
are many art installations including "Out of the blue", a large Whale
statue, many painted murals, and a variety of independently owned and
operated businesses like the Tower Theater, Salt Lake City’s oldest
operating theater. Every year the theater puts on an immersive and
interactive Rocky Horror Picture Show with a full cast and costumes.
